D-110   Dispatch Recorder
Course designed to train dispatch recorders on the structure of an expanded dispatch organization and to effectively perform with that organization.  It will provide the student with a working knowledge of the purpose and process of completing the resource order and other dispatch forms.  It also provides instruction on establishing dispatch procedures. 

I-300   Intermediate ICS: ICS for Supervisors and Expanding Incidents
Course enables personnel to operate efficiently using the Incident Command System (ICS) in supervisory roles on expanding or Type 3 incidents.  Topics include: ICS fundamentals review, incident/event assessment and agency guidance in establishing incident objectives, Unified Command, incident resources management, planning process, demobilization and incident transfer of command or close out. National Incident Management System (NIMS) compliant.
Prerequisite – I-200.

L-180   Human Factors on the Fireline
Course designed for unit-level supervisors to use when delivering orientation training to new crew members.  Topics include: situation awareness, basic communication responsibilities, attitude and stress barriers, decision-making process and teamwork principles.  The stand-alone training package is available in the NWCG Publications Management System. An adapted version will be included as Unit 4 in the 2003 edition of S-130, Basic Firefighter.

L-280   Followership to Leadership
Course designed as a self-assessment opportunity for individuals preparing to step into a leadership role.  The course combines one day of classroom instruction followed by a second day in the field with students working through a series of problem-solving events in small teams (Field Leadership Assessment Course). Topics include: leadership values and principles, transition challenges for new leaders, situational leadership, team cohesion factors and ethical decision-making.  Prerequisite – Experience on incident assignments in operations or support functions and L-180 Human Factors on the Fireline.

L-380   Fireline Leadership
Course designed to develop training, recommended for unit supervisors with the tools to build and maintain effective and cohesive crews/teams.  Target group: Strike Team Leaders and Unit Leaders.  This course will be held in conjunction with the Southwest Region at the Prescott Fire Center.  Nominations will be accepted through the AWA and
Jerome MacDonald with the Southwest Region.  Prerequisite – L-180 Human Factors on the Fireline

S-130/190   Basic Firefighter Training and Wildland Fire Behavior
Course designed to train entry-level firefighters.  Students will be introduced to and gain knowledge of the basic incident management organization, firefighting techniques, suppression equipment, safety, strategy/tactics and basic fire behavior.  Field exercises will be performed for valuable hands-on training, including night operations and an overnight spike camp.  (Includes L-180 Human Factors on the Fireline)

S-131   Advanced Firefighter Training
Course designed for the Advanced Firefighter/Squad Boss (FFTI) and Incident Commander Type 5 (ICT5).  It is interactive in nature and contains several tactical decision games designed to facilitate learning the objectives and class discussion.  Topics include: fireline reference materials, communications and tactical decision making.
Prerequisite – S-130/190Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2).

S-200   Initial Attack Incident Commander
Course provides students with the tools  and techniques to make the transition from Single Resource Boss to Incident Commander.  Prerequisite – Any Single Resource Boss. 

S-203   Introduction to Incident Information
Course designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills they need to serve as Information Officers Type III Trainees on wildfires and other incidents.  The course touches upon almost all aspects of establishing and maintaining an incident information operation. 

S-211   Portable Pumps & Water Use
Course designed to give the students practical knowledge and application skills of portable pump operations.  Field exercises will train student in the setup and operation of a portable pump along with foam applications.

S-212   Wildfire Power Saws
Course provides introduction to the function, maintenance and the use of internal combustion engine-powered chain saws and their tactical wildland fire application. Field exercises support entry-level training for firefighters with little or no experience in operating a chain saw, providing hands-on cutting experience in surroundings similar to fireline situations.
Prerequisites – Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2), current CPR and Basic First Aid certification.

S-215   Fire Operations in the Urban Interface
Course designed to assist structure and wildland firefighters who will be making tactical decisions when confronting wildland fire that threatens life, property and improvements in the wildland/urban interface. Instructional units include: interface awareness, size-up, initial strategy and incident action plan, structure triage, structure protection tactics, incident action plan assessment and update, follow up and public relations and firefighter safety in the interface.  This course is required training for the position of Incident Commander Type 4 (ICT4) and Strike Team Leader.
Prerequisites – Agency personnel should be Single Resource Boss qualified and structure fire departments should complete S-130/190, L-180 S-230, S-231, S-290, I-100 and I-200.

S-230   Crew Boss
Course designed to produce student proficiency in performance of all duties associated with the single resource crew boss, from initial dispatch through return to the home unit.  Topics include:  preparation and mobilization, assignment preparation, tactics and safety, off-line duties, demobilization and post-incident activities.
Prerequisites – Advanced Firefighter/Squad Boss (FFT1), S-131, S-290.

S-231   Engine Boss
Course provides proficiency in performance of the duties associated with the Engine Boss, Single Resource (ENGB) position.  Topics include: identifying engine/crew capabilities and limitations, information sources, fire size-up considerations, tactics and wildland/urban interface.
Prerequisites – Advanced Firefighter/Squad Boss (FFT1), S-131, S-290, S-230.

S-234   Ignition Operations
Course provides training in the functional roles and responsibilities connected with firing operations including planning, ignition procedures and techniques and equipment applicable to wildland and prescribed fire.  This course also addresses the role of the ignition specialist or firing boss as the organization manages escalation from a non-complex fire situation.  Note:  This course is not intended to qualify or certify any personnel in the use, storage or transport of any firing device.  Rather, it is to provide the potential firing boss a description of available equipment and the requirements specific to each such device.  If weather permits, a field exercise and/or prescribed fire will be included.  Prerequisites – S-290. FFT2.

S-248   Status Check-In Recorder
Course provides instructions, illustrations and examples of resource check-in status tracking.  Students workbook provides exercises with solution, which simulate incident check-in and status tracking.
Prerequisites I-200 L-180 Basic computer skills

S-260   Interagency Incident Business Management
Course discusses management principles associated with incidents. It includes:  employee responsibilities and conduct, personnel time recording; pay and commissary, correct reporting procedures for injuries, procurement and equipment time recording, property documentation, cooperative agreements with other agencies and claims/accident investigation.

S-261   Applied Interagency Incident Business Management
Course designed to provide the prerequisite skills necessary to perform the task of the entry level finance position. 

S-270   Basic Air Operations
Course offers information on the uses of aircraft in fire suppression and provided instruction on how to conduct oneself in and around aircraft.  It will familiarize the trainee with tactical and logistical uses of aircraft in fire suppression, as well as, describe the specifications for helicopter landing areas.  Target Group (ICT4) Support Dispatchers

S-290   Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior
Course provides students with the knowledge of wildland fuels and fire behavior to make safe and effective fire management decisions on prescribed and wildland fires.  Prerequisite – S-130/190.

S-330   Task Force/Strike Team Leader
Course designed to meet the training requirements outlined in the Wildland Fire Qualification System Guide and the Position Task Books. Prerequisite – Single Resource Boss.

S-336    Fire Suppression Tactics
Course designed to support training requirements in the Operations Section of the Incident Command System.  It is designed primarily to instruct experienced single resource bosses and initial attack incident commanders in the tactics necessary at the strike team/task force leader level.  It is also valuable for operations supervisors qualified at higher management levels who have not received training in wildfire suppression tactics.  Lecture and exercises in the package are specific to wildland fire suppression, and extensively build upon students’ position experience and prerequisite training  Prerequisites-Single Resource Boss, (SRB) or ICT4.

S-346    Situation Unit Leader
Course designed to prepare the student to accomplish the duties and responsibilities of a Situation Unit Leader (SITL).  The course topics include: unit mission and function, organization of unit, collecting incident information, technological aids, and reporting and displaying the information. 
Prerequisites -Qualified as any strike team leader or ICT4 and qualified as two singe resource boss positions, one of which must be either ENGB or CRWB.

S-359    Medical Unit Leader
Course designed to provide the skills and knowledge needed to perform in the role of medical unit leader (MEDL).  Topics include: gathering information, organizing the medical unit, supervising the unit, evaluation, documentation and demobilization.  Prerequisite – Prior or current certification as an EMT.

S-360    Finance/Administration Unit Leader
Course provides cross training of all of the finance/ administration unit leaders. 
Prerequisite – PTRC, EQTR, INJR, CLMS, PROC, COMP.

S-390   Introduction of Fire Behavior Calculations
Course designed to instruct prospective fireline supervisors in wildland fire behavior for safe and effective fire management operations.  Prerequisites – Single Resource Boss, S-290.

M & C   Map and Compass Course
Course provides the student with an intermediate level of knowledge and skills necessary for land navigation with a map and compass.  In addition, the use of GPS as a navigational supplement to maps and compass will be discussed.  The daily field exercises will provide students with the opportunity to practice skills and utilize classroom exercises.  Field exercises require adequate physical fitness necessary for hiking in varied terrain.  Prerequisite – S-130/190.

TDG/STEX TtT   Tactical Decision Games / Sand Table Exercises – Train the Trainer
Tactical Decision Games (TDGs) focus on leadership and decision making.  This train-the-trainer will teach you how to design and deliver TDGs through the use of sand tables to share with the home agency or department.

Wildland Fire Risk and  Hazard Severity Assessment – Train the Trainer
Course designed for those working in communities that have the ability to influence change at the local level.  Including but not limited to agency personnel, chiefs, company officers and those developing fire/fuels management programs.  Topics include: safety/job hazard analysis, assessment processes, collaborative efforts, structure and community protection plans, geographic information systems (GIS), grant funding, successful programs, resources and disposal methods and development of effective recommendations for various types of property owners and land managers. Field applications will integrate science-based assessment methodologies with implementation techniques designed to reduce combustibility and fire hazard. (Non-NWCG course)
Prerequisites – Delegated authority from agency or department, knowledge of wildland fire behavior, ICS and associated risks in the wildland/urban interface.

Class A Foam Tactics & Use in the Wildland
This course is designed to cover all aspects of class A foam use in wildland fire.  Topics include: basic foam properties; safety; equipment including proportioners; aspirating systems and Compressed Air Foam Systems (CAFS)  Hands-on activities will include assembling foam systems to produce various types of foam, tabletop exercises, and wildland foam application exercises including structural protection.  (Arizona Sate Fire Marshal’s Office Certified Course, Non-NWCG Course)
