AZ Wildfire and Incident Management AcademyIn 2010, the Arizona Wildfire & Incident Management Academy expanded its training to incorporate trainee positions for incident management positions. Trainees can get task books signed through assisting with daily operations during the Academy.

The safety record of our firefighters across the state is outstanding and we expect this to continue through training participation at all levels. The Academy provides the best instructors in their fields to promote and teach what you need to become the best you can be.

New dates for the 2011 Academy – March 12-18, 2011

The dates have been set for the 2011 Academy:

Courses will take place between March 12 and 18 at Embry Riddle Aeronautical University. Registration for the 2011 Academy will begin October 1, 2010. Courses are listed on this website under the course number. For example – Click on the heading 200 Level Courses to find S-212, or L-280. Then on that page there will be links for the registration site. We will only be accepting registration on-line this year. At the Academy, you will experience how an incident is run by an Incident Management Team in a fire camp environment. You will meet new friends and will grow both professionally and personally.

The Arizona Wildfire & Incident Management Academy is a non-profit organization and is sponsored through the cooperative efforts of federal, state and local agencies. You will spend time networking, learning and training with the same professionals you will interact with when responding to fires.

S-330 Task Force/ Strike Team Leader

S-330 Task Force/ Strike Team Leader (24 hours)
Dates:
  March 12-14
Pre-requisites:  Qualified as any single resource boss. 
                              Successful completion of pre-course work.
This is a 24-hour course designed to meet the training requirements outlined in the PMS 310-1, Wildland Fire Qualification System Guide and the position task books developed for the positions of task force leader and strike team leader.

S-339 Division/Groups Supervisor

S-339 Division/Groups Supervisor (20 hours)
Dates:  March 16-18
Pre-requisites: Completion of pre-course work
                             Qualified as a Task Force Leader (TFLD) OR qualified as an (ICT3)
                             OR
                             Qualified as an Incident Commander type 4 (ICT4)
                                                 and
                            Qualified in any two strike team leader positions (one must be STCR or STEN).

S-349  Resource Unit Leader (32 hours)

Pre-requisites: Qualified as status/check-in recorder (SCKN)
        Successfully complete pre-course work and pre-course test

S-356 Supply Unit Leader

S-356  Supply Unit Leader (16 hours)
Dates:
  March 12-13
Pre-requisites: Qualified as an ordering manager (ORDM)
                  and  as a receiving/distribution manager(RCDM).
This course is designed to prepare students to perform the duties of managing the incident supply unit.

S-359 Medical Unit Leader

S-359  Medical Unit Leader (20 hours)
Dates:  March 16-18
Pre-requisites:  Prior or current certification as an Emergency Medical Technician or equivalent.
This course is designed to provide the skills and knowledge needed to perform in the role of medical unit leader (MEDL). Topics include gathering information, organizing the medical unit, supervising the unit, evaluation, documentation, and demobilization.

S-360 Finance/Administration Unit Leader

S-360 Finance/Administration Unit Leader (30 hours)
Dates: March 14-17
Pre-requisites:  Qualified as personnel time recorder (PTRC) for time unit leader (TIME).    
            Qualified as compensation-for-injury specialist (INJR) and  claims specialist(CLMS) 
                          for compensation/claims unit leader (COMP).
            Qualified as equipment time recorder (EQTR) and meet agency procurement authority
                         requirements for procurement unit leader (PROC). 
            Have agency related cost estimation and analysis experience for cost unit leader (COST).

S-390 Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior Calculations

S-390 Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior Calculations (32+ hours)
Dates: March 13-17
Pre-requisites: Intermediate Wildland Fire Behavior (S-290)
                        Qualified as a single resource boss
                        Complete pre-course work
This course is designed to introduce fire behavior calculations by manual methods, using nomograms and the Fire Behavior Handbook Appendix B. Students gain an understanding of the determinants of fire behavior though studying inputs (weather, slope, fuels, and fuel moisture). Students also learn how to interpret fire behavior outputs, documentation processes, and fire behavior briefing components.
