Meet the 2024 Incident Management Team

Interested in being a part of the IMT?

An application process is available for positions as either a qualified team member or trainee. These positions are 100% volunteer but team members may work with their home unit supervisor to arrange for compensation for hourly pay and travel expenses.

The application accessible below will be used to prioritize and fill the roster for the 2024 AWIMA Incident Management Team. We wish we had enough roster spots for everyone. Due to the limited number of roster positions available and the overwhelming response, not every application will result in a rostered position. Section Chiefs will have authority to fill their sections. The final determination for IMT assignment is at the discretion of the Incident Commander. The Academy is run as a planned event and allows for the opportunity to put ink in NWCG and FEMA taskbooks.

Team notifications will be made the first week of January. Application deadline is 12/31/2023. If you have any questions, please email IC@azwima.org

What you should know as a team member

  • Each team member is volunteering their time to ensure the success of the Academy and create the highest quality learning environment. This is not a paid position by the Academy.

  • Breakfast and lunch is included for each team member for every day assigned. These meals are provided at the Embry Riddle Aeronautical University cafeteria.

  • A hotel room is provided by the Academy for the duration of the team members commitment to the Academy. However, team members may book and pay for their own accommodations. Shared accommodations may be utilized when space and/or fiscal constraints are in place.

  • In the past, some team members have worked with their home unit supervisor to receive compensation for their time. Home unit/agency support varies.

  • For those not receiving compensation and working 100% as a volunteer, a letter can be provided by the AWIMA non-profit. This may be submitted for tax purposes and documentation. Please consult with a qualified tax professional for any tax advice.

Trainees

  • Trainees are expected to be involved fully for a minimum of 4 consecutive working days. Anything less will not allow for a quality training assignment. All positions require the individual to be on-site and virtual is not an option at this time. If chosen to join the team, section chiefs will communicate expectations which may include participation in pre-planning meetings starting in January 2024.

  • There is a registration fee of $40/day. This will include breakfast and lunch for each day.

  • Since the Academy is a pre-planned event, a final evaluator signature for certification will NOT be made for NWCG taskbooks however this may be available for FEMA/ All-Hazard taskbooks (Gold Card).

  • An evaluation will be provided for each trainee in addition to taskbook signatures.

  • If selected to fill a trainee position, be sure to bring your kit and initiated taskbook.
