The Rapid Extraction Module Support (REMS) course is a three-day program designed to prepare personnel to understand and effectively perform the role of a REMS team while assigned to a wildland fire incident.

The course is based on the concepts, roles, responsibilities, qualifications, equipment, and operational expectations identified in the NWCG Standards for Rapid Extraction Module Support, PMS 552.

REMS teams provide a specialized capability intended to facilitate timely access to injured or ill firefighters, support medical treatment in the wildland fire environment, and provide safe and efficient egress from locations where extraction may be difficult or delayed.

IMPORTANT — THIS IS NOT A ROPE RESCUE TECHNICIAN COURSE

This course does not provide technical rope rescue or operational rope rescue technician training or certification.

Students will not receive Rope Rescue Awareness, Operations, Technician, or equivalent certification as a result of completing this course.

Although REMS resources utilize technical rescue equipment and techniques consistent with their existing training and agency qualifications, this course is focused specifically on the application of those existing capabilities within the REMS mission and wildland fire environment.

Personnel assigned to REMS remain responsible for possessing the technical rescue, medical, wildland fire, and other qualifications required by their agency and applicable NWCG standards.
