Women in Wildland Fire is a blended-learning course designed to provide participants with the foundational knowledge, skills, and experiences needed to enter and succeed in the wildland fire service. The course combines nationally recognized wildland fire curriculum with instructor-led training focused on firefighter readiness, operational skills, human factors, and leadership, with an emphasis on the experiences and professional development of women in wildland fire.

Participants will complete S-190, Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior, and L-180, Human Factors in the Wildland Fire Service, online prior to attending the instructor-led portion of the academy. The instructor-led training will incorporate S-130, Basic Wildland Firefighting, with classroom and hands-on instruction covering fire behavior, firefighting operations, firefighter safety, situational awareness, communication, teamwork, and decision-making.

The course also emphasizes career pathways, physical readiness, mentorship, leadership, confidence, and navigating the unique challenges and opportunities within the wildland fire profession. Through online coursework, classroom instruction, hands-on activities, and scenario based learning, participants will build a foundation for safe and effective participation in wildland fire operations while developing connections with instructors, mentors, and fellow firefighters.

Upon successful completion of all required components, participants will receive certificates documenting completion of S-130, S-190 and L-180. This NWCG certificate meets the requirements to be employed as a Wildland Firefighter Type 2 (FFT2) and hold a Red Card to work on wildfires across the country. **This course does NOT include a work capacity test (WCT or pack test).
